Meet our little Perky (L)!

We were first made aware of Perky by a local sanctuary that said he had been found on the roadside in Essex. After Hayley went to collect her, it became clear that Perky had been bought as a pet ‘micro-pig’ and his owners had decided they didn’t want him anymore.

Poor Perky had a swollen tummy, lots of scabs, and dry skin when he first arrived. Hayley cared of Perky at home, tending to his dry skin and scabs so they would heal.

Unfortunately, Perky is just one of thousands of pigs victim to the micro-pig trend. Micro-pigs don’t actually exist - potbellied and smaller pig breeds are falsely advertised as so, and frequently these pigs are purposefully underfed to stunt growth. Many also end up abandoned as they grow bigger, or as their environment becomes unsuitable for them.

At the sanctuary, Perky lives with his new best friend Pinky and loves getting scratches from all the volunteers!
